Frequently Asked Questions
How much will it cost to move my house?
There are many variables involved. The structure’s size, structural integrity, location and proximity to where it is going, the width of roadway to new location, any obstacles, street lights, electrical wires need to be considered. If the house is located on a basement or is going to be moved over a basement at the new location that needs to be considered also. All these factors will affect price. Please email us with dimensions (length, width, height) and pictures if possible or give us a call and we will be happy to come to you for your personal house (or other structure) moving estimate.
Is it cost effective to move a building?
It costs about 40% less of what a new built building would normally cost.
Does moving a building or house reduce its structural integrity?
No. We know exactly how to position the equipment, gage the weight, and properly transport your structure from one location to another. The integrity of your house or building should not be affected.
What is involved in remodeling?
Sheet rock on the interior walls will need to be repaired. Some walls (outside and inside) will have openings to allow steel I-beams through to support the house. These openings will need to be repaired by a handyman or contractor but will not hurt the structural integrity of the structure. If cabinets, toilettes, bathtubs and fixtures are existing and are reusable in the structure you can remove them and reinstall them.
How long does it take to move a house or building?
Most moves can take anywhere from one day to several weeks, depending on the size, location, age, and structural limitations. We take the utmost care and precautions to keep a safe worksite and care for your structure.
I’m in a flood zone - Can you save my home?
Absolutely. We have many clients who love their homes or buildings but are constantly flooded by local streams and rivers. We can lift your house so the foundation can be raised to avoid future flooding. This can increase the value of your home.
I would like to subdivide my property but my house is in the middle!!!
Your house can be moved to one lot, the other lot or we can find a new home for your house if you don’t want it at all.
Demolition-please recycle with us instead.
We can save you the money you would normally have to pay for demolition by finding a new home for your house. This is a free service to you. All you have to demolish is the foundation (if there is one).
Will the resale value of my house be the same if it is a house that has been moved onto the location rather than built new?
The resale value of your house depends on many factors. The house itself should not have a net decrease in value. The relocation site must be carefully considered when planning the move, how it is remodeled, the type of structure. In some cases it could increase the value of your home as in the case of raising a home in a flood zone. We recommend getting advice from an appraiser to determine the value.
What permits are required for moving my house, and who is responsible for getting them?
It is essential that, before the move is made, you contact the building inspectors for the site to which the structure will be moved. You are responsible to obtain the building permits for new location. Ask your city or county building authorities how to file for a permit for a “move on house”. That is different than a mobile home. We can help you with those services for a separate fee. We obtain all permits in regard to the move of the structure on city and state roads.
How do I find a contractor to disconnect all services before the move and reconnect at the new site?
If you don’t have any contractors you already work with or have friends who know good contractors we have contractors we can recommend. We will work closely with your choice of contractor to make sure that the building move is completed efficiently and economically from start to finish. And, although you will be responsible for the financial arrangements with the contractor, we will insure that a smooth transition takes place so that your building is moved quickly and without stress.
Who is responsible for damage that could happen to other persons’ property while the building is being moved?
We are responsible for all damages to other peoples’ property during the structure move.
Will I receive a written contract clearly showing me the responsibility of all parties involved in the move? Details of the move, as well as responsibilities by all parties involved from raising the building to the destination site will be stated in writing for your approval, and no work will be performed without your written approval. We don’t believe in “surprises”. We want you to be completely aware of the operation from start to finish.
Can you build the foundation on which my building will be moved to?
We can supply you with the names of several contractors who can supply this service. We will work closely with the contractor to insure that they are familiar with the building and its requirements before you engage their services. We recommend that your foundation contractor measures the building before foundation is built because plans are not always accurate.
Have you ever dropped a building?
No. We put safety first. We have never, and will never cut corners or hurry a job.
